Sometimes we waste so much time on the journey that we fail to focus on the direction it is leading towards. Why do we so often lose sight on the destination and simply zone in on getting somewhere, with really no idea of where we want to be. I spent a good percentage of my adulthood just trying to stay on a journey with a somewhat questionable destination. To be honest I spent a good part of my entire life just trying to keep my head above water so when I got to wherever and whatever my final destination lead me, I would be able to bask in it. Forget enjoying it. In my head I thought I was working towards something, some kind of goal, when in reality I was just trying to stay on a path. Any path. A path at times that wasn’t even my path, but a path that was influenced by other’s expectations. I never once stopped to ask myself, “What do you want the outcome to be? What are you working towards? How do you envision your ending? Does it bring you joy, or simply contentment because it is what is expected of you? Is your journey truly just to survive the journey…” Now, at this stage of existence, I am finally coming to a realization just how important it is to contemplate on the direction of my life.

I say this to emphasize, we must take control of our journey so that we can somewhat shape what we aspire our journey’s final destination to be. A journey used as a noun is defined as an act of traveling from one place to another. Final in adjective form is defined as coming to the end. Destination in noun form is defined as a place to which someone is being sent. Honestly, who gets in a boat in an ocean of water to sail nowhere? We must stop wading, hoping that the tide or current will push us in a direction that is beneficial, mentally and physically for our beings. That goes for all phases of our lives. Relationship wise, career wise, social wise, or personal wise. Let’s stop staying on the journey for the sake of being on a journey. If the journey you are on is not fruitful for your life, have faith and change your course of direction. That journey was not meant for you. It is okay to envision how you want your journey to end. What is not okay is staying on an aimless journey. I use these words as a means of encouragement for others as well as myself. May your journey be blessed, beautiful, and abundant. Most of all, may your journey have a direction.
